Seminar Attendance
Teachers on full contracts should attend all of the seminar days. Otherwise, you should attend a proportional amount in relation to your teaching hours.

Absence from seminars
If you sign up for a seminar and are unable to attend, you should contact ttraining@ihmadrid.com Attendance to seminars will always be stated on job references.

Apr 23, 2010  Global - A new kind of coursebook with Kate at 12.30Fed up with celebrity-ridden coursebooks full of “lite” content? Global is a new 6 level coursebook series currently being launched by Macmillan with the strapline “Learn English. Learn through English. Learn about English”. Already receiving positive feedback, the course sets out to treat our students as intelligent adults through its content-rich student’s book and to address the challenges of the digital era with its e-workbook. In the session, Kate - who has co-authored the Beginners and Elementary student’s & teacher’s books –will look at the guiding principles and key features of this new series.

 Pronunciation 1: The Phonemic Chart with Christina at 12.30Christina gives the part one of a pronunciation mini-course which deals with individual sounds and getting your head around the phonemic chart. All teachers are welcome.
 FCE Speaking Exam Focus with Simon at 12.30Simon deals with key language, tips for students to get through the test and some model speaking video of candidates.
May 14, 2010  FCE mock speaking practice with Simon Mullan at 12.30 CANCELLED!The seminar will be on 'how assess our candidates as well as common problems found & advice to give ss' and will be directed to anyone who is interested in being trained up to do FCE mock speaking tests in IH. This seminar follows on from the previous weeks seminar which is more about 'the tasks to do, the language content & tips on how SS can stage their discourse in the various speaking parts of the paper' NOT assessment.
May 21, 2010  Exploiting Song Lyrics as a text with Daniel at 12.30Are you tired of gap-fills? Do your students hear but not really listen? Songs can really liven up a lesson, but how much mileage do we get out of the lyrics? In this seminar we will work through a number of individual, pair and group activities that can be used with songs, look at methods to exploit lyrics for grammar and lexis both pre- and post-listening, and discuss ways to explore their overall meaning to ensure students get the most from their use in class. Plenty of songs, but no singing required!

 Educational team meeting with Kate at 12.30Based on a think tank held in Seville earlier this year (attended by Scott Thornbury, Rod Bolitho, Adrian Underhill among others), we will spend some time brainstorming our own ideas and gut feelings before looking at the conclusions the “experts” reached.
